Market erases gains, snaps two-day winning run amid selling

Benchmark indices erased gains from previous sessions to snap a two-day winning run amid selling across sectors.

At close, the Sensex was down 836.34 points or 1.04 per cent at 79,541.79, and the Nifty was down 284.70 points or 1.16 per cent at 24,199.30.

Investors remained cautious ahead of the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) outcome later tonight.

The broader markets also ended the session lower. Nifty Midcap 100 index fell by 0.49 per cent, while the Nifty Smallcap 100 index concluded the session with a drop of 0.84 per cent.

On Nifty, the top gainers were Apollo Hospitals Enterprise (6.55 per cent), State Bank of India (0.56 per cent), HDFC Life Insurance Company (0.42 per cent), Tata Consultancy Services (0.27 per cent), Larsen & Toubro (0.03 per cent).
