Four swept away while performing Tarpan at Hindmotor river ghat

Taken unaware by a tidal bore, six persons performing tarpan at the B B Street Hooghly river Ghat at Hindmotor were carried away by turbulent river waters on Saturday.

Two of them were quickly rescued since they were much closer to the river bank.
The bodies of the other four were found today after search operations by after NDRF and river police divers that lasted through the night.
On the occasion of Mahalaya, a huge number of people had gathered in the morning at B B Street River ghat at Hindmotor.
People were performing the traditional Hindu ritual of Tarpan standing in waist deep water in the river.
