Exploring different dynamics of society
The Statesman
|March 27, 2025
The newly released book "Alley of Deception" by Jiyyad Shahul has captured the attention of fiction lovers with its deeply gripping narrative.
Gao Xingjian rightly remarks that it is in literature that true life can be found. It's under the mask of fiction that you can tell the truth. In sync with the thoughts of Gao Xingjian, Jiyyad Shahul's book reveals the bitter truths about society which cripple it to the core.
As we begin to flip through the pages, we encounter quite horrifying and bloodcurdling details about Vishnu Gowda, the kingpin of a mafia gang who brutally eliminates a former gang member accused of betrayal. The way the author sheds light on this ghastly lynching sends cold shudders deep down in our spines.
The author is pertinently aware of the fact that an excess of blood and gore is certainly nauseating to a sensitive nostril. To mellow down the grimness in the narrative, he most elegantly brings a twist in the tale that suddenly begins to meander to calmer vistas, structuring the story of four young friends who have graduated mechanical engineering and are now desperately hunting for jobs.

We, the People
Psychologists opine that rapid degeneration of moral and ethical standards and ever-increasing materialistic cravings, exacerbated by a rabid bourgeoise and consumer culture, are contributing to the emergence of a heartless, cruel social order. Our education is no longer aman-making mission but just a tool to open the gates of material success. Men are becoming money-making machines
