Health secretary opens first bone bank in city

In a major boost to musculoskeletal and reconstructive surgery in the region, CK Birla Hospitals—CMRI on Saturday inaugurated Eastern India’s first operational bone bank in the private sector.
The facility was unveiled in the presence of senior officials of the West Bengal health & family welfare department, including NS Nigam, principal secretary; Dr Swapan Saren, director of health services; Prof. (Dr) Indrajit Saha, director of medical education; and Dr Anirudha Neogi, former special secretary, medical education. The dignitaries lauded CMRI initiative, calling it a significant step toward strengthening specialised orthopaedic care in Eastern India.
Offering his support, Mr Nigam said the new facility would greatly enhance access to safe, standardised grafts and improve patient outcomes in trauma, oncology, and reconstructive surgery.
