Ruckus in state Assembly over privilege move against Adhikari

Stung after the Speaker's rejection of its adjournment motion on an alleged obscene phone threat from Trinamul leader Anubrata Mondal, and the tabling of a breach of privilege notice against Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari over his purported Pakistan-related remarks targeting Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee outside the House—the BJP staged a walkout from the state Legislative Assembly on Wednesday.

The Assembly, already roiled since Tuesday by frayed tempers during a debate on a motion lauding the valour of the armed forces in the wake of the Pahalgam massacre, witnessed further uproar today. That earlier debate had descended into a bitter exchange after the Chief Minister launched a scathing attack on Mr Adhikari and BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul.
