NMDC's riverfront project transforms Dantewada into emerging eco-cultural tourism hub
The Statesman Delhi
|May 20, 2025
In a significant stride toward sustainable development and cultural revitalization, NMDC Limited has completed the construction of a picturesque ghat and pitching area at the confluence of the sacred Shankini and Dankini rivers in Dantewada.
Executed under the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme at an estimated cost of 298 lakh, the initiative is rapidly emerging as a cornerstone of tourism, economic opportunity, and community empowerment in the region.
Long revered for the ancient Danteshwari Temple, one of the 52 Shakti Peethas, Dantewada has historically drawn thousands of pilgrims during Chaitra Navratri, Sharadiya Navratri, the vibrant Fagun Mela, and the iconic Bastar Dussehra. However, despite its religious and ecological significance, the district has remained underdeveloped as a tourist destination.
