SAPS captain arrested over alleged multimillion-rand fraud

THE South African Police Service (SAPS) has arrested a 53-year-old captain attached to the Protection and Security Service (PSS) on a charge of fraud, following allegations that he used his access to the police finance system to withdraw millions of rand.
Police confirmed the arrest yesterday.
“The South African Police Service (SAPS) anti-corruption unit has arrested a 53-year-old Captain for fraud.”
National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said the arrest stems from an internal investigation sanctioned by the Division: Financial Management Services after suspicious transactions were detected on the Polfin system.
The captain is expected to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate's Court today.
Mathe said National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola has welcomed the arrest.
“Any member found to be engaging in corrupt activities will face the full might of the law.
