Joburg water woes persist as minister blames water tanker 'mafias'

JOBURG and other parts of the country continue experiencing widespread water outages due to burst pipes and high demand, with Johannesburg Water actively working on repairs and infrastructure issues.

Over the weekend, Water and Sanitation Minister, Pemmy Majodina, confirmed that millions in taxpayer funds have been paid to contractors for water infrastructure projects that remain incomplete - leaving communities without access to clean and reliable water.

Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the ANC’s special National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Boksburg last week Saturday, Majodina acknowledged widespread project failures and mismanagement at municipal levels, where many water projects were contracted.
