Hope and trust keep South Africans together
The Star
|November 21, 2025
IF IT WERE true that politicians without exception are corrupt; that by far most municipalities are incompetent and fail; that the series of Commissions to investigate fraud is a farce and the billions lost will never be retrieved, how do South Africans remain hopeful and forge ahead to pay their taxes and eke out a living?
If it were true that criminal syndicates have captured the police; that the defence forces are at the mercy of sinister political plots; that nameless mobs relentlessly target township and farming communities for abuse and worse, what makes it possible for citizens to overcome fear and keep their courage?
And, if it were true that an unnamed Black alliance manipulates society to see Coloured people ignored and Afrikaners persecuted, how do the many different groups that make up our nation remain peaceful and not fall into all-out chaos?
