America's Christian Nationalism crisis

MODERN America, forged by brutal conquest, Christian cultural supremacy, and slavery, now faces the consequences of centuries of unrepentant arrogance.

The tensions we see today on American streets and in America's government is not an anomaly it reveals the nation's deep-rooted obsessions with power, which has defined its character since 1776, even as it proclaims, 'In God We Trust.

On May 12, 2016, a few months before the first Trump presidency, I was invited to deliver the Commencement Address at the Post-Graduate Hooding Ceremony at Rutgers University in Newark. The speech was titled "Towards A Better Union." In it I referenced the Constitutional Convention of 1787, held in Philadelphia where delegates from the states debated and drafted the U.S. Constitution. Its Preamble says, "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, ensure domestic tranquillity, provide for the common defence, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
