Turnaround has to start with a positive result at Luton - Byers

Port Vale midfielder George Byers is eyeing up a starting role at Luton.

Byers is fully aware of the task ahead for Port Vale as they take on Luton Town at Kenilworth Road today. The Londoner was back in the team for the last two games, in the Vertu Trophy and FA Cup, but has not played in the league since the 4-0 reverse at Bolton Wanderers on November 8.

Now he hopes to be in the side at Luton to help the club climb from the foot of the League One table.

“We know where we are, we know the position we're in but it's only going to be us that gets us out of it," he insisted at the club's pre-match press conference.

“Worrying about what everyone else is doing is not going to help us. We've just got to focus on ourselves, keep working hard like we're doing.

“The fine lines have gone against us but we've had two good games in the cups now, the lads have got the confidence back so it seems so we have to put that form into the league.”
