BRITAIN’S biggest police force is set to call for “urgent action” to address problems in the justice system, including criminals being left untagged and “out of control repeat offenders” being released on bail.

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley has said in a report to the London Policing Board that around 30% of criminals in the English capital who should be electronically tagged are not because the devices have never been installed. He also highlighted that around 150 tagged offenders breach the restrictions enforced by their tag each week.

In Sir Mark's latest report to the board, which is due to meet on Thursday, he said the “stretch and strain” on the criminal justice system is increasingly evident after years of underfunding, but that not all of the issues are due to financial pressure.
