'Stop and search' order over clash fears

FEARS of violence between rival groups saw police invoke extra powers to quell potential disorder.

Staffordshire Police acted after trouble in Tunstall, Goldenhill and Sandyford, and a hammer being found in a vehicle. People were also seen in Tunstall with faces covered and potentially carrying weapons.

It sparked concerns two groups known to each other could become embroiled in conflict.

The Section 60 order was invoked from 3pm until 11pm on Wednesday.
