Stafford Town kick-off new season in style with win over local rivals
The Sentinel
|July 28, 2025
STAFFORD Town began their season in the North West Counties South Division with a fine 2-0 victory over local rivals Eccleshall at Evans Park.
Josh Wilson headed just wide and Patryk Mazurkiewicz fired over for Stafford as they called the early tune.
The home side broke the deadlock two minutes before the break when a cross by debutant Sam Lynch saw Matt Hearsey beat 'keeper George Scott to the ball and then tap it home.
Eccleshall were reduced to ten men on the stroke of half time when Jamie Turner was shown a straight red card for some off the ball antics.
Hearsey conceded a penalty after a foul in the 65th minute, but the Eagles' spot kick was well saved by Dan Cooper on his debut for the club.
