Pool to shut for three months for 'essential' repairs to roof

THE main swimming pool at a leisure centre will be closed for more than three months to allow £362,000 repairs to the roof.

Corrosion is eating away at the roof above the 25-metre pool at Jubilee 2 in Newcastle, right.

Now operator Newcastle Borough Council says 'essential' repairs are now needed. The main pool will be closed from December 8 until late March while the works are carried out. The smaller pool and the rest of the centre will remain open during this time.

Borough council cabinet members are expected to approve an extra £64,792 of funding for the project, bringing the total budget to £362,018.
