Cycling legend signs up for 100-mile Dougie Mac Bike Ride... at age of 81

- Gary Porter

Go West!

CYCLING legend Les West has signed up for a 100-mile charity ride - at the age of 81.

Les, one of the top British riders in the 1960s and 1970s, will take part in the Dougie Mac Bike Ride on Sunday, September 14.

He hopes to complete the route from Stoke-on-Trent to Llangollen, North Wales, and back in under six hours.

Les, originally from Hanley, says he wants to thank the Blurton hospice for helping family and friends over the years.

He said: “I do it because my father was cared for by Dougie Mac and they were very good to him.

“I have had friends in the hospice too who were all looked after very well. The team at the hospice do a fantastic job.”
