Foyle: Vale's position might rule out potential managers

ON THE HUNT: Port Vale owner Carol Shanahan is searching for a new boss after sacking Darren Moore. Inset: Former Valiants striker Martin Foyle.

Vale legend and ex-manager Martin Foyle believes club owner Carol Shanahan OBE was “protecting” Darren Moore as long as she could before the decision to sack him.The 62-year-old, one of the shining lights in John Rudge’s team in the 1990s, and who managed the club for three years from 2004, was speaking on BBC Radio Stoke about Moore’s departure on Sunday.

The decision to remove him came after just three wins in 21 matches and without Moore, that statistic worsened slightly after they lost to Bradford City on Monday night.

The club are looking for only their second home league win of the season - the first back on September 20 against Mansfield Town - as they face Blackpool, today, while they haven't scored a home league goal since then either.

As the club continue their search for a new manager, Foyle had his say on Moore's departure.
