Flats ruling put off over 'risk' to venue

'Vital' grassroots music hub fears complaints about noise
COUNCILLORS want further assurances that new flats will not put a popular music venue at risk.
Aspire Housing wants to build apartment blocks containing 63 affordable flats on the vacant site of the former Zanzibar nightclub in Newcastle.
But the proposal has attracted dozens of objections, with many raising concerns over the potential impact on The Rigger music venue, which stands on the opposite side of Marsh Parade.
Patrons of The Rigger fear that noise complaints from future residents could jeopardise Newcastle's last independent music venue - potentially putting it out of business.
Concerns have also been raised over parking and highway safety.
