62-year-old named head of recruitment at Carlisle

- Clive Youlton

PORT Vale legend Martin Foyle has joined relegated Carlisle United as head of recruitment as they prepare for life in the National League.

Now 62, the former forward will be tasked with finding the men to help fire the Cumbrian club back to the Football League under the guidance of manager Mark Hughes.

Having enjoyed a glittering career as a player at Vale Park, before managing the club, Foyle arrives at Carlisle having been head of recruitment at Scottish Premiership side St Mirren, a role he also held at Motherwell, Morecambe and Northampton Town.

"Martin has a proven track record of unearthing players who punch above their weight," Carlisle's chairman Tom Piatak said on the Carlisle website.

"His experience, contacts, and instincts will be vital as we reshape the squad with ambition and purpose."

Carlisle will play in the National League for the first time in 20 years following successive relegations, the latest from League Two in May.
