Stoke Flame boss seeking 'clarity' over what is going to happen to his car park

- Phil Corrigan

PLANS have been approved for 141 homes on an eyesore site - but concerns have been raised over the potential impact on a nearby business.

Stoke-on-Trent City Council has secured outline planning permission for the development on brownfield land at Pyenest Street in Shelton.

But the owner of Stoke Flame fireplace centre, which has been based opposite the site in Howard Place for more than 50 years, has called for assurances from the council that his customer parking will be retained once the scheme goes ahead.

Tim Sherwin says his business is reliant on the car park off Pyenest Street, which forms part of the development site.

Mr Sherwin told planning committee members that although he welcomed the new homes, he needed more clarity over the future of the car park. The outline application earmarks land for 10 commercial parking spaces, but there has yet to be any agreement on how these will be allocated.
