Free festival marking Victorian class struggle combines with events for the centenary of Potteries polymath

- Sentinel Reporter

THE Mother Town will come alive on Sunday as a festival joins forces with a celebration of one of Stoke-on-Trent's most renowned artists.

Visitors to Burslem can look forward to art, music, history and community spirit as the 3rd Potteries Chartist Festival teams up with the Arthur Berry 100 celebrations. The Chartist Festival will celebrate the town's radical history and its role in the national fight for democracy - coinciding with Arthur Berry 100.

Organisers say both events share a passion for honouring the region's working-class heritage - from the political reformers who fought for change in the 19th century to the creative voices, like Smallthorne-born artist, playwright and poet Arthur Berry, who captured the life and character of the Potteries in the 20th century.

The festival is organised by The People's History Association North Staffordshire (PHANS) with the New Vic Theatre's outreach department, New Vic Borderlines.

The Chartist festival also coincides with two other cultural landmarks:
