All change after boos return

CLIVE YOULTON continues his season review as Vale proved to be spot on in the Football League Trophy...

THAT Doncaster Rovers defeat brought home the reality that not even bringing in 16 new players would guarantee success for Port Vale.

Less than 6,000 home fans had turned up and many made for the exits from the 82nd minute.

In 23 games as Vale manager, Moore had four wins, five draws and 14 defeats.

He had won just one home game in charge of Vale, who hadn't won on a Saturday at Vale Park since December 16, 2023, against Wigan Athletic.

The boos had returned.

Three loan signings had been made on deadline day - Brandon Cover from Leicester City, Rico Richards from Aston Villa and Antwoine Hackford from Sheffield United. The fact Ethan Chislett, Jayden Stockley, George Byers and Benicio Baker-Boaitey only made the bench against Doncaster told you everything about the depth of Vale’s squad.

But quality alone doesn’t win matches. Going the other way was Funso Ojo on a season-long loan to Shrewsbury.

There was a midweek game to come with the visit of Wolves U21s in the Football League Trophy Northern Group B.
