Day case site will free up theatre space at both Royal Stoke and County Hospital

- Sentinel Reporter

THOUSANDS more patients will benefit as a new £9.8 million day surgery unit opens to tackle hospital waiting list backlogs.

The unit at County Hospital in Stafford is for patients requiring colorectal, upper gastroenterology, orthopaedic or ear nose and throat operations. It will help free up more space at main theatres at the Royal Stoke and County Hospital.

The unit is the latest stage of the hospital's transformation into an 'elective-hub' meaning patients will be seen quicker at the University Hospital of the North Midlands NHS Trust (UHNM) hospital most appropriate for their needs.
