Orissa HC grants bail to DRDO espionage accused after nearly four years in jail

THE Orissa High Court has granted bail to Basanta Kumar Behera, a contractual employee at the Defence Research and Development Organisation's (DRDO) Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, who has been in custody since September 2021 on espionage charges.
Behera, an air conditioning operator, was arrested along with three others for allegedly spying for a Pakistani agent. In an order dated July 1, Justice Gourishankar Satapathy noted Behera’s prolonged pretrial detention and his full compliance during two previous interim bail periods.
