Khurda Road-Balangir Rail Line Project achieves major milestone with final tunnel breakthrough

IN a landmark achievement for infrastructure development in Odisha, the Khurda Road-Balangir New Rail Line Project has reached a critical milestone with the successful breakthrough of Tunnel No. T2.
This final excavation, completed on May 30, signifies the culmination of tunnelling works across all seven tunnels planned along the strategically important rail corridor.
Tunnel T2, situated between Buguda and Daspalla in Nayagarh district, extends 1,775 meters and features a 2-degree curve. It stands as a testament to modern engineering, constructed using the cutting-edge New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).
Notably, it is the second longest tunnel in the district and an engineering marvel given the complex terrain of the Eastern Ghats it traverses.
