Countries push fossil fuel expansion far above climate limits, says report

COUNTRIES are planning to produce more than double the amount of fossil fuels in 2030 than what would be consistent with limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius, a new report warned on Monday.

The Production Gap Report 2025 said governments' production plans for coal, oil and gas are 120 pc above levels aligned with the 1.5 degree Celsius pathway and 77 pc higher than those consistent with a 2 degree rise. The Paris Agreement, under which countries committed to pursue efforts to limit warming to 1.5 degrees and hold it to well below 2 degrees, completes 10 years in 2025.
