Running's appeal is due to its accessibility (it's easy to start), affordability (no expensive equipment needed), and versatility (in terms of venue and schedule).

The benefits also extend beyond the physical, having a positive impact on one's mental health. There is also the social aspect of being part of a running group or a community.

PHILIPPINE STAR: When did you start running? What did you wish you knew about running and health when you first started?

FAITH GARCIA (Miss Aura International 2021): I started running in 2014. Looking back, I wish I had known sooner that you didn't need to be an elite athlete to start running—or to start any sport. I used to think you had to be extremely athletic even to try, but the truth is, anyone can start, even just occasionally or as a hobby. When I was a kid, I wasn't particularly athletic, aside from swimming, and I never really enjoyed running. Now, I wish I had discovered the sport earlier because it has helped me so much, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, too.
