SHAMAINE BUENCAMINO SHARES HER 'JULIA STORY'

In the hope of helping parents with kids who have mental health problems and those who are trying to recover after their kid’s suicide, I asked my dear “U.P. classmate,” Shamaine Buencamino to share her “Julia story.”

Acting couple Shamaine and Nonie Buencamino are keeping their daughter's memory alive through their mental health advocacy project, Of Angels and Julia.

Julia is the lovely daughter of Shamaine and Nonie. She ended her life the way Emman did. Thanks more than hugs can say to Shamaine for opening up her heart so that her story can help other parents who are still in a dark place. A mother or father’s love never says, “I have done enough.”

So even after Julia’s passing, Shamaine and Nonie are keeping her memory alive through their mental health advocacy project, Of Angels and Julia.

Emman and Julia did not die in vain. Their passing serves as a reminder to be kinder.

“My youngest daughter took her life at the age of 15. That was 10 years ago. Are we in a better place now? Yes, of course. It is a cliche because it is true that time heals. But there is a healthy way of grieving so that the pain and stigma don’t ruin those of us who are left behind.
