Sacked DPWH engineers want house arrest

Sacked Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineers currently detained at the Senate have asked to be placed under house arrest instead, Senate President Vicente Sotto III confirmed yesterday.

Sotto said former district engineer Henry Alcantara and former assistant district engineers Brice Hernandez and Jaypee Mendoza have written to the Senate regarding the request.

“The (Blue Ribbon) committee has not decided. We'll wait for (acting Blue Ribbon chair Sen. Erwin Tulfo),” Sotto told reporters.

Tulfo is currently overseas on official business.

The Senate President noted that contractor Curlee Discaya, who is detained alongside the former DPWH officials, has not made a similar request.

Discaya, however, has filed a petition for habeas corpus before the Pasay City Regional Trial Court.
