NBI: Garma in Malaysia, not planning escape

Drug war whistle-blower and retired police colonel Royina Garma is not planning on evading her criminal cases in the Philippines, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

Garma flew to Malaysia on Sunday to meet with officials of the International Criminal Court (ICC). She is expected to testify in the crimes against humanity case of detained former president Rodrigo Duterte.

"She assured me she won't escape the case filed against her involving the murder of Wesley Barayuga. I assured her that she is safe here in the Philippines. If she decides to leave, she should just take care," NBI Director Jaime Santiago told reporters Tuesday.

Garma did not tell Santiago when she might return to the country or who she would specifically meet.
