Marcos Orders Speedy San Juanico Bridge Repair

President Marcos yesterday directed the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to speed up the rehabilitation of San Juanico Bridge, saying the inconvenience caused by the restrictions on the link between Leyte and Samar is being felt even in areas as far as Mindanao.

Speaking during the launch of the national fiber backbone phases 2 and 3 in Leyte, Marcos said the retrofitting of the bridge has caused long queues and travel times, but that the government is working to improve the situation.

"That's why we are really reducing (the waiting time). We need to help address it because the sudden closure of San Juanico Bridge to commercial traffic is felt even in Mindanao. So we ordered the DPWH to fast-track the retrofitting so it can be completed efficiently," the President said.
