Some 15 years ago, the general manager of InterContinental Manila, Christian Pirodon, was being transferred to InterContinental by the Lake in Hanoi. He kindly invited me as his guest, and I quickly asked Frances Lim of Silk Cocoon to join me.

At that time, only Cebu Pacific offered direct flights from Manila to Hanoi, so we were waiting to board at midnight. I have a feeling there weren't any other flights 15 to 20 years ago, or we wouldn't have chosen a "red-eye" flight!
