No faction or political force can singularly shape the course of this crisis — although some might try to delude themselves into thinking they do. The wild synergy of this situation defies anyone’s competence.

Zaldy Co has just performed what Chavit Singson did to Joseph Estrada a quarter of a century before. He dumped the highest official of the land right into the eye of the whirlpool, the epicenter of the scandal.

He threatens a worsening drip-drip of revelations over the coming days. This will create increasing pressure on the various political forces and social institutions to dramatically reassess their positions. More cracks are bound to show. Co is not the only one desperate to save their skin.

Recall when retired Marine Orly Guteza exposed the humongous cash deliveries at the Senate hearing. Senators made much ado about lapses in the notarization of his affidavit. It was like they were hoping raising such technicalities will contain the explosiveness of the man’s allegations.

When Co emerged to speak his truth, politicians of various stripes began talking about the “proper forum” and “probative value.” A bizarre chorus began trying to diminish the political significance of what was being alleged. It seemed the earth trembled and everyone was frantically trying to deny a quake happened.
