DOT Reports Great Strides in Midterm of Marcos Administration, Vows to Continue Moving Forward

As the Marcos administration reaches its midterm, the Department of Tourism (DOT) takes pride in the great strides it has made not only to promote the Philippines as a premier destination but also to bring economic growth and development across the country.
-
Since the start of the term of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., Philippine tourism has produced trillions of pesos' worth of revenue from spending by both local and international travelers, which resulted in more opportunities for employment and livelihood for millions of Filipinos, according to Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco.
"In 2024, total tourism expenditure from both international and domestic travel reached P3.86 trillion—concrete proof of the sector's growing contribution to our national economy. Tourism now directly employs 6.75 million Filipinos and supports millions more. These outcomes affirm the vision of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. to position tourism as a key driver of inclusive growth and shared prosperity," Frasco said.
With such revenues raked in, tourism has empowered local economies, sustained businesses, and fueled development in places once overlooked.
"These are not just figures. They reflect a deeper truth, that tourism is no longer peripheral, but central to our national growth story. Today, the industry directly employs 6.75 million Filipinos and indirectly supports nearly 10 million more. It powers local economies, sustains businesses, and fuels development in places once overlooked. When we invest in tourism, we invest in our people. That is why, from the very beginning of this administration, we set our sights not just on recovery, but on long-needed reform," she added.
Opening Gateways, Expanding Horizons
Confidence in the Philippine tourism industry boosted with historic inaugural direct flights from San Francisco to Manila by United Airlines, Vancouver to Manila by Air Canada, and Paris to Manila by Air France.
The country also anticipates the launch of direct flights from India—one of the fastest-growing outbound markets in the world—a move that reflects the administration's broader strategy of connectivity and diversification.
