They first met at an award show, but Kat had no clue who Christian was. She explained, "I had just moved to the Philippines. I had just moved back, too. I've been living in the US for 10 years. I was seated next to him at an award show. I had no idea who he was. I thought he was an indie singer."

It took five years before they saw each other again. But this time, it was Christian who didn't recognize Kat because she had lost a significant body weight. Kat still had no idea who he was. Christian asked Kat on a date when he found out she was single.
