Move over Doge – it's time for some creative bureaucracy

As bromance gave way to fratricide after Elon Musk’s exit from the US “department of government efficiency” (Doge), an alternative approach to reform was celebrated last week in Berlin at the Creative Bureaucracy festival.

To mark the festival and the apparent demise of Doge, British government reformer Geoff Mulgan has published a new Demos thinktank paper: Doge Done Better: The Case for Progressive Efficiency and a Streamlined State.

Like Abundance, a controversial new American book by Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson, Mulgan emphasises that getting better value for money from the state is not an exclusively rightwing idea.
