TN won't scrap no-detention policy: Min

SCHOOL Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi on Monday stated that Tamil Nadu will not implement the recent amendment to the Right to Education (RTE) Rules, which removes the no-detention policy for students up to Class 8.

Expressing concern over the centre's decision, the minister said the amendment mandates re-examinations for students failing in classes 5 and 8 in two months. If they fail again, they will be held back. "This move poses significant hurdles for students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds," he said.
