SC Transfers ADGP Case to CB-CID, Sets Aside HC Order

The Supreme Court on Thursday transferred the investigation against ADGP (Additional Director General of Police) H M Jayaram to the CB-CID after the Tamil Nadu government said it wants his suspension to continue till a probe is completed in the kidnapping case allegedly linked to him.

A bench of justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan also asked the Madras High Court Chief Justice to transfer the cases involving the police officer to another bench and set aside the directive of the single judge of the HC asking police to take Jayaram into custody.

The top court was hearing a plea filed by Jayaram challenging the Madras HC's order directing his arrest. During the course of the hearing on Thursday, Siddhartha Dave, appearing for Tamil Nadu, told the apex court that the state has agreed to hand over the probe to CB-CID. However, he also requested that the HC should not "trouble" the state for the decision.
