Crescent Institute: A Campus Built on Eco-Friendly Initiatives

The Estate Office strives to implement sustainable design features continuously to maintain the campus as a green and eco-friendly environment.

The institute's mission focuses on energy and water conservation through measures such as establishing on-campus renewable energy sources like rooftop solar power plants, solar water heaters, street lighting, and biogas plants. It also prioritizes green belt development and solid waste management programmes that separate recyclable waste and ensure responsible, pollution-free disposal. Furthermore, the institute aims to have all its buildings certified as green buildings with gold ratings under international standards like USGBC-LEED, GBCI-EDGE, and IGBC.

Founded by the visionary Alhaj Late Dr BS Abdur Rahman, the institute was established as Crescent Engineering College in 1984 and later upgraded to a deemed university in 2009. Located on a 50.19-acre campus next to the Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Tamil Nadu, it is often called the greenest spot in Chennai. Starting with an intake of 180 students, the institute has grown substantially, with a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability.
