The travel time for suburban commuters on the ChennaiTiruvallur route may increase by 10 minutes since the railway has imposed a 20 kmph speed limit over a 6-km stretch between Avadi and Ambattur to facilitate pipeline installation beneath the rail track by the metro water department. Currently, local trains are running at speeds of 80 to 90 km/h.
