THE Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) has advised the Tamil Nadu government to be cautious about water uses from its Mettur reservoirs as Northeast Monsoon is about to end and reservoir level is almost five percent lesser than normal.
However, Karnataka has so far released surplus water at interstate point Biligundlu than required as per the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT), as modified by the Supreme Court. Karnataka has released Cauvery water 279.8 thousand million cubic feet (TMC) as against required 161.41 TMC between June 1 and December 18, 2024. Even in November, Karnataka released 19.82 TMC against the requirement of 11.78 TMC and between Dec 1 and Dec 18, Karnataka released over 15 TMC as against re
