Ensure strict vigil during fishing ban period

April 05, 2025

As the 61-day fishing ban period for the east coast is set to begin on April 14, fishermen urged the authorities concerned to maintain strict vigil over the sea off the east coast.

- EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE @Thoothukudi

During the fishermen grievance redressal meeting here on Friday, the fishermen sought effective implementation of the ban period by restricting fishermen from the west coast including western parts of Kanniyakumari and Kerala.

The Indian Coast Guards (ICG) must be roped in for surveillance. A monitoring committee comprising fisheries officials and fishermen should be formed to ward off illegal fishers along the east coast during the ban period, the fishermen said.
