Activists Blame 'Info Leak' to Sand Miners for Life Threats

MEMBERS of the Kavery Neer-vala Athara Pathukappu Sangam alleged that activists who lodge complaints about illegal sand mining are receiving life threats and accused revenue department officials of leaking their information to sand mafia.
The activists submitted a petition to the district collector during the weekly grievances meeting held on Monday.
In the petition, the farmers said, several tonnes of mineral resources such as gravel and river sand were being looted by people of Lalgudi, Mannachanallur, and Manapparai taluks.
The complainants further claimed that despite submitting repeated complaints, revenue officials have not taken any action and they demand strict measures to protect these natural resources.
