THE political tension in Palakkad town intensified on Wednesday following a controversial remark by BJP district general secretary A K Omanakkuttan.

During a protest march to the MLA office, the BJP leader issued a veiled death threat to local MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. This came in response to the legislator's criticism of the Palakkad municipality's recent decision to name a proposed skill development centre after RSS founder K B Hedgewar.

Speaking to agitators, Omanakkuttan said the BJP leadership had not yet decided whether Rahul should be allowed to 'set foot in Palakkad,' and warned that if such a decision was made, the MLA would be forced to "walk with his head up in the skies and feet off the ground" — a statement interpreted as a veiled threat.
