A 20-year-old woman was shot dead allegedly by her father and cousin in Madhya Pradesh's Gwalior after she refused to marry a man chosen by them even as police officials were present in the house during the incident.

- ANURAAG SINGH @ Bhopal

The incident happened in Adarsh Nagar locality on Tuesday evening four days before her marriage.

There were heated arguments between the woman, Tanu Gurjar, and her father Mahesh Gurjar, a dhaba owner. Local police came to know about the tense situation, and two constables including a woman cop reached the spot to intervene, police officials said.

The cops were counselling Tanu and her father in presence of the community's elders, when Mahesh and his nephew Rahul took the woman inside a room on the pretext of talking to her alone and then shot her dead from a close range. At least four bullets were fired at her in the face and head, the officials said.
