Leelamani cared for daughters till last breath, says councillor

"LEELAMANI V was a woman of innate strength. She raised both her daughters and cared for them till her last breath," ward councillor Remadevi Amma said on Sunday after news broke of the elderly's death.

The 87-year-old Melattingal resident was found dead in her yard on Sunday, with a live service wire entangled in her hand. As it later emerged, Leelamani had left home on Saturday evening to alert a local electrician about a power outage at her home as a power line had snapped after a banana plant fell on it. She locked her adopted daughter Aswathy, 42, who is autistic, inside. When she did not find the electrician at his house, Leelamani returned.
