MALLAPURA Lake, which was supposed to be a tourist spot in the historic city of Chitradurga, has failed to attract visitors and has instead turned into a septic tank, storing the city's sewage. "I am registering a suo motu complaint against the officials for their laxity," said Upa Lokayukta Justice K N Phanindra here on Wednesday.

Addressing officials during his morning visit to the lake on Hospet road in the city, he expressed his anguish over the bad state of the water body. The lake should be developed within two months, failing which he will recommend to the state government to initiate action against errant officials, he said.
