Govt draws turf line on banning convicted MPs

The Centre on Wednesday filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing the demand for lifetime ban on convicted MPs/MLAs from contesting polls, saying the "issue falls within legislative policy of parliament and not courts".
The reply came after the SC sought the views of the government and the Election Commission on a PIL. The court will hear the plea on March 4.
