The Tamil Nadu government will take severe action against those who fail to do their duty in the matter of custodial deaths, drugs, illicit liquor and women's safety, Chief Minister M K Stalin said on Monday, after chairing a review meeting with the chief secretary and top police officials of TN.

The meeting gained significance as it comes a day after reports emerged regarding the alleged custodial death in Sivaganga district, attracting strong criticism from the opposition parties. The government has already suspended six cops in this regard.

State police chief Shankar Jiwal, his deputy Davidson Devasirvatham, the IGs of the four zones, Greater Chennai Police (GCP), Tambaram and Avadi police commissioners were among those present.
