False info in poll papers: HC orders action against collector for failing to act

THE Madras High Court has ordered the state to initiate disciplinary action against Tiruvarur collector for failing to take action for prosecuting a civic body member who was found to have furnished false information in his affidavit accompanying the nomination papers for the civic body polls.

The order was issued by a division bench of Justices R Subramanian and G Arul Murugan on Friday while disposing of a petition filed by D Sharathbabu of Kudavasal in Tiruvarur district.

The petitioner said he had made complaints to the state election commission (SEC) in 2021 seeking criminal action and to disqualify Papa Subramaniyan, the district panchayat councillor belonging to AIADMK, on the grounds of furnishing false information in the affidavit about his assets.
